The high rise development which has been developed along Americk‡ trieda from the city centre of Kosice (Slovak Republic) terminates with 3 tower blocks close to the bottom of Skalky hill, the competition site. The areas around these blocks lack any sense of cohesion: there is no definition between countryside and the city. Our major move is to propose another tower ñ mixed use with retail units / community on the lower levels and residential above. This tower sits at the bottom of the site and with the other 3 towers completes an arc of development providing enclosure for a public square. The terrace above the square serves as a starting point for 2 low rise residential terraces which follow the natural topology of the land. Beyond the terraces and further up the hill, the pattern of development breaks down, becoming less dense with 4 individual villas. Pathways go up and around the new buildings progressing up to the hill to a leisure building at the top which includes a coffee shop and an information point for the trekking possibilities into the forest.
